Introduction

Sometimes it is useful to have a local agent researching for you. They know the language, can read the old Gothic script, and are familar with local resources. However they do cost money, and using them is nowhere near as satisfying as winkling out the references yourself, so use them wisely. To that end, I have made this list of all that I know. If you have any others, I would be pleased to add them here.

Remember that I do not guarantee their work, prices, standards or ethics; so you will have to take full responsiblity for any dealings with them.

Also remember that some are genealogists and others are record agents. The former usually take a commission and research based on your general instructions, and tend to be more expensive. Consequently, before you commit yourself, you should negotiate a reasonable fee which they will not exceed without your explicit permission, and insist on a reasonable and regular regime of reports. The latter just look up and transcribe records on your specific instructions, and work on a strict fee for service. They are easier to handle, but progress is slower and tends to depend on the quality and quantity of your personal knowledge.
