Well, this one is a poem to those who are the wrong type of missionaries - those who want to convert a person, but do not really show an interest in that person - just in 'getting them saved.'
Up-close and impersonal
I see a man with a mission -
And a man rejected.
A man with God's mission -
And God rejected because of that man's mission.
Some people,
I am sure,
Need only this bit more -
This bit of God's word to enter their life
Before they can understand -
But,
So many others
Turn and run at the sight
Of your zealous and determined walk towards them.
Do not,
In your brashness,
Automatically assume that they will gladly receive
Your gospel of Damnation -
For that is what it is for most of them -
A decree that they will burn for not believing.
They so often hide themselves as soon as they see
What you are trying to do -
They have been told of the life that awaits them -
Burning in Hell,
as most would put it.
Who would not ignore a message that tells them
That they were doomed and dead?
Especially when they know that they are not feeling dead
And that God has no part in their life
(Not that they can feel anyway).
The message of Love is not often received
Through this affrontation,
Nor is it even sent that often -
Because the interest is not in the person -
The way that it Should be,
The way that God wishes it to be -
But the determination is rather upon
Whether they know Jesus or not.
You only see
The Life and Death
That is in Jesus or not in Him -
Do not think for a moment
That any of these people
Cannot live their lives without God -
So many so happily do so -
They may sense
That there may be something more -
But it is not worth the hassle that comes
From learning that what one's life is based upon
Is Sin and therefore doom and death.
So I hear you now -
Saying that 'God's love covers all that sin!',
It is true!
But too often
That part of the message is not understood,
Too often not told -
For the person has already run -
Away from you,
Away from He
That you're desperately dragging them towards
Show the world
By your actions -
For they are what tell the gospel the best,
Not these inadequate things called 'words'.
