Service Assisting Male Survivors of Sexual Assault

What does SAMSSA offer?
  • Counselling support, face-to-face or over the telephone for male survivors
  • Groups for male survivors who are looking to expand their support to include other male survivors.
  • Information about male sexual assault for survivors, their partners, family, friends and supporters.
  • Referral to other services or private counselling options.
  • Education for community groups about male sexual assault and related issues.
  • Training for community workers and other professionals about male sexual assault and working with male survivors.


Who can use SAMSSA?

  • SAMSSA is a service for any man who is looking for support in recovering from sexual assault or child abuse.
  • SAMSSA aims to be sensitive to the individual needs of each man who uses the service, and does not discriminate on the basis of sexuality, race, ethnicity or culture, age, ability or disability, or religious or political beliefs.
  • Partners, friends and family of male survivors are welcome to contact SAMSSA for information and support themselves.
  • Community groups and services who wish to learn more about male sexual assault, or to improve their service delivery to male survivors can contact SAMSSA about education and training options.
  • Community workers, professionals and other supporters of male survivors are also welcome to contact SAMSSA for consultation and information about male sexual assault.
  • SAMSSA is a support service for male survivors. Support and group services are not provided to men who use sexual violence against other men, women and children. SAMSSA will attempt to find an appropriate referral for support for these men who contact the service.
