Phineas Abraham formerly of Jamaica Senior Magistrate for the parish of
Trelawny in that island and last surviving Captain in the Trelawny Regiment
of militia who departed this life 21 February 1887 in his 75th year.

Hyman and Isabella DAVIS

One of their sons was Jimmy DAVIS, the librettist and impresario Owen Hall.

They had a daughter, Julia FRANKAU, who was the Jewish satirical novelist "Frank Danby", c.1860 - 1916. Julia's children included writer Gilbert FRANKAU and comedian Ronald FRANKAU.

He was naturalized on 22 April 1853. He was a wine and spirit merchant.

Deborah DURLACHER (née BENJAMIN)

Deborah was the first wife of Montague DURLACHER and mother of his only child, daughter Frances Susannah, who was named after her grandmother, Frances BENJAMIN. Deborah died on Saturday, 27 September 1879 "after a long and painful illness", at 8 Stranrear Place, Maida Vale, aged 55.



Edward Louis DURLACHER

Born Edward LOUIS, he was the youngest son of the late Adolph LOUIS of New York, and the only child of Mrs Anne DURLACHER, the second wife of Montague DURLACHER. One assumes he changed his name to DURLACHER after his mother married Montague DURLACHER in 1881. He is not with Montague and Anne in the 1891 census.

He died on 19 January 1892 in his 25th year.



Montague DURLACHER

Montague DURLACHER was the son of Lewis DURLACHER (c.1792 - 1864) and his wife Susannah (c.1798 - 1874). Both parents are buried at Balls Pond Burial Ground: Lewis in row 10 no. 8, and Susannah in row 10 no. 10.

Montague's first wife was Deborah BENJAMIN; they were married in 1850. They had one child, Frances Susannah DURLACHER, who married dentist Edward Newton JONES. They changed their name to DURLACHER.

Montague's second wife was (widow) Anne LOUIS (née PHILLIPS), daughter of Israel PHILLIPS, whom he married in June 1881. Anne DURLACHER died on 26 May 1916, aged 78, at the Bournemouth Hydro, Bournemouth and is buried at Balls Pond Burial Ground row 38 no. 3.

Montague DURLACHER died on 16 November 1894, aged 71.

Montague came from a long line of surgeon-chiropodists who became dentists. He appears to have followed his father's profession and was Chiropodist to the Royal Family:
"Mr. Durlacher of Old Burlington Street has received from the Lord Chamberlain the Royal Warrant of Appointment as Surgeon Chiropodist to Her Majesty The Queen [Victoria]." (Jewish Chronicle, 17 October 1879)

Isaac JOSEPH

Son of Solomon JOSEPH, a tailor and clothing salesman, and his wife Priscilla (née SAMUEL[S]).

He was born in London and lived his early life on Dudley Street in the St. Giles neighbourhood of London. He worked as a stockbroker's clerk. After his father's death in 1862 he moved with his mother to Hackney Rd in the East Shoreditch area.

Isaac Joseph died 26 September 1897 aged 56.


Joseph JOSEPH

Born c.1790 in London, son of Isaac JOSEPH (c.1764 - 1846).
Died on 10 June 1872.
Buried on 11 June 1872.

He was a watchmaker of 33 Great Ormond Street. Known father of Louis JOSEPH, watchmaker; Julia, wife of Louis BRAUN; and Rose, wife of Julius Samuel MOSELY. Grandfather of Blanche JOSEPH.

Morris Joseph died July 4 1851 aged 20.


Priscilla JOSEPH

Daughter of Alexander SAMUEL[S].

Born in London. Wife of Solomon JOSEPH with whom she had at least five children. After her marriage she lived on Dudley Street in the St. Giles neighbourhood of London until the death of Solomon in 1862. After that time she lived on Hackney Road in the East Shoreditch area.

Rebecca widow of the late Samuel Joseph died November 10 [?] 1886 in her 82nd year.

Sarah wife of Abraham Joseph died 17 July 1869 in her 55th year.

Solomon JOSEPH

Son of Isaac JOSEPH, a hatter, and his wife Esther.

Born in London. He worked in the clothing trade as a tailor and salesman. He lived most of his life on Monmouth/Dudley Street in the St. Giles neighbourhood of London. He married Priscilla (née SAMUEL[S]) and they had at least five children. Priscilla and one of their sons, Isaac, are also buried at Balls Pond Cemetery.



Louis KYEZOR

Son of Louis KYEZOR senior and Sophia Flora MYERS.

Born in 1833 at Doncaster, Yorkshire.
Died on 7 July 1887 at 110 Edgware Rd, Marylebone, London.
Buried on 8 July 1887.

He was a master clock and watchmaker in London. He married Julia JOSEPH (1834 - 1917) on 26 March 1851; they had 11 children. (Some of the children changed their name to KEYZOR.) He was the grandfather of Leonard KEYZOR/KEYSOR, VC.

Lewis LEON

Born c.1813 at Portsea, Hampshire.
Married Rebecca POLLOCK.
Died on 28 May 1877 at 1 Craven Hill, Hyde Park, Kensington, London.
Buried on 31 May 1877 in row 19 no. 5.

Arrived in Sydney, New South Wales in July 1832, and was for some years involved in the shipping trade. Early in 1841 he set up shop as an oil and colour merchant in George Street in the centre of Sydney. His wife Rebecca died on 18 May 1845 at Sydney; this event may have been a factor in Lewis' decision to return to England; he and his four children left Sydney in April 1846.

In London he was a (West India) merchant and navy agent.

Lewis LEON's gravestone is a pillar inscribed with the following text:
